BIC’s International Foundation Programme is the ideal preparation for university …
Flinders University research suggests self-regulated learning is a valuable tool that could help ease the transition to university for senior secondary students. “University learning places high demands on students for complex and independent learning, namely learning that requires the ability to plan, monitor and evaluate one’s work and to control one’s motivation and emotion,” author of the report Dr Stella Vosniadou, a Strategic Professor in the College of Education, Psychology and Social Work at the university in South Australia, writes in a special issue of the journal European Review. The University of London’s International Foundation Programme taught by BIC, whether online or face to face in Bristol, adopts a blended learning model which places considerable emphasis on developing students’ independent and reflective learning skills. As Dr Vosniadou has outlined, this provides them with the perfect academic preparation for studying at university.
Over 350,000 more university places will be needed in England by 2035 to keep up with demand, but Scotland will see a decline in demand over the same period, an analysis has found. The greatest growth in demand is likely to be in London and the South East, with 40 per cent of demand for places predicted to come from these areas. Scotland is meanwhile forecast to have a very different trend to England. The report says that the nation is likely to see a decrease in demand of 18,000 places due to a decline in its 18-year old population. (Source)
The overall number of students applying through UCAS who have deferred in 2020 is only 0.1% This means that university admissions 2021 will not be much more competitive than in 2020. How the application cycle for 2021 will look was discussed at UCAS Facebook live last week. (Source)
Students who have successfully completed the International Foundation Programme with Bristol International College are guaranteed offers from the University of London, so will be better placed than many other candidates to win top university places should this trend of increased demand continue.
Bristol’s Mayor, Marvin Rees, has vowed to work to support families during the half-term holidays. Now dozens of catering businesses across Bristol region have joined forces to distribute free school meal packs this half-term. Many cafes, restaurants and bars are giving out up to 250 free lunches to children this week, inspired by Manchester United footballer Marcus Rashford’s campaign to provide children on free school meals in England with food during the half-term holidays.
